JANUARY 1, 2012 INTO THE NEW YEAR Happy New Year, everybody! We're real excited about the upcoming year and all it holds in store. We've finished the recording of our third album, Town and Country. It's now on to mixing and mastering, and then duplicating the CD's and pressing the vinyl LP's. The official release date is SATURDAY, MARCH 24, at a show with some exciting guests at a special venue soon to be announced. We'll also be hitting the road in late Spring to do some (primarily) weekend dates throughout the midwest and the southeast to promote the record. Details will be announced here as they're finalized. In the meantime, we'll still be playing regularly around the Greater Cincinnati area, so check our Gigs page for venues, dates, and times. Hope to see you at a show soon!

DECEMBER 8, 2011 NEW SHOW JUST CONFIRMED! Join us in the Ballroom of the historic Southgate House for one final show in that iconic venue on MONDAY, DECEMBER 26 as we open for the reunion show of the amazing PLOW ON BOY!
NOVEMBER 22, 2011 RECORDING UPDATES: Four final days in the studio in mid-December will mark the end of the recording sessions for Town and Country, the third Magnolia Mountain album. We recorded the basic tracks for the final two songs ("Rainmaker" and "Cry for Me") a couple of weeks ago. We'll finish up these tracks and various and sundry other final overdubs during these final four sessions, plus welcome in a few special guests to lend their talents to the proceedings. Then it's on to mastering, pressing, and our album release show on MARCH 24, 2012. Can't wait for everyone to hear it. UPCOMING PERFORMANCE Magnolia Mountain frontman MARK UTLEY will be performing a solo set at MOTR PUB on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8, opening for Houston, TX singer/songwriter ROBERT ELLIS. Mark is very pleased and honored to be offered this gig, and hopes to see you there. MM guitarist JEFF VANOVER will be joining Mark on many of the songs.
NOVEMBER 6, 2011 SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19 is the date for the amazing "TO SING WITH YOU ONCE MORE" benefit concert put together by Mike Oberst of The Tillers. The line-up includes folk music giants like JOHN COHEN and TRACY SCHWARZ (of the NEW LOST CITY RAMBLERS), LEE SEXTON, CLIFTON HICKS, and a ton of other great national, regional, and local acts. We are incredibly proud to be part of this show. We will be performing a new original song that Mark wrote expressly for this event, plus we will be joined for a song by special guest ROSIE CARSON on fiddle and vocals. Do not miss this show!!!!
OCTOBER 27, 2011 We've been absent for a while, but SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5th marks our triumphant return to the premier roots music establishment in Cincinnati (and notorious Beardo habitat), THE CROW'S NEST in beautiful downtown West Price Hill! Free show as always, we'll play from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
OCTOBER 20, 2011 Mark Utley will be performing a solo set with the band TERMINAL UNION on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26 as part of their October Artist in Residence series at the historic Southgate House in Newport, KY. Free show starts at 9:30 p.m., Mark goes on around 11:00.
OCTOBER 2, 2011 Join us at very possibly our favorite local venue, the mighty mighty MOTR PUB at 1345 Main Street in Over-the-Rhine on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15th! Two long sets, one at 10:00 p.m., one at midnight. Lots of new originals from the upcoming album, new covers showcasing our revamped line-up, plus lots of sweat, blood, and adult beverages. SEPTEMBER 8, 2011 LIVE SHOWS Every Saturday this month has us playing out at a different venue: Sat., Sept. 10 - 10th Annual Imago "Music in the Woods" Festival STUDIO UPDATE The sessions for Town and Country (our third album), are rolling right along, with more full-day sessions with John Curley at Ultrasuede Studio scheduled for September 3rd and September 11th. The tracks are really starting to come together, and we can't wait for people to hear them!

AUGUST 15, 2011 MIDPOINT MUSIC FESTIVAL Our date and venue have been announced for this year's MidPoint Music Festival! We're excited to announce that we will be sharing the stage with The Felice Brothers and Robert Ellis at The Cincinnati Club on Saturday, September 24th (the closing night of the festival). More details on the festival can be found here. RECORDING UPDATE The sessions for Town and Country (our third album) are going great. We've got four more dates booked at Ultrasuede Studio over the next month to continue fleshing out the sixteen new tracks. People keep referring to this batch of songs as Mark's best ever, and the revamped Magnolia Mountain line up is doing a fantastic job with them. The sessions this month will also see a few special guests stopping by to add their talents to the mix, including Mike Oberst on banjo, David Rhodes Brown on slide and steel, and Ricky Nye on piano and organ!
JULY 17, 2011 Fresh off a great gig yesterday down in Rabbit Hash, KY, we've got a full plate heading into the rest of July and August. Seven dates booked over the next three weeks at Ultrasuede to start fleshing out the new record, plus a full calendar of shows (check out our UPCOMING GIGS PAGE for full details). We've got photo sessions scheduled with the new line-up, video shoots for one (possibly two) songs off the upcoming album, plus editing sessions to finish up the video for "The Hand of Man", our song from the Music for the Mountains compilation album. Bandleader Mark Utley is heading out next weekend for two solo gigs in Wisconsin, opening for our good friends The Tillers, including the "There is Enough" Festival, which was named after a song Mark wrote on the second Tillers album. Keep checking in here and on our facebook page for the most current updates, and we hope to see you out and about sometime soon!
JULY 9, 2011 THIRD ALBUM UPDATE We're doing a lot of recording this month (and next) with John Curley at Ultrasuede Studio for our third record, Town and Country. It's shaping up to be (like its predecessor, Redbird Green) a single CD/double LP configuration. Here's a tentative track sequence for the album: Side One Side Two Side Three Side Four It's still very early in the process and we still have a ton of work to do, but with a strong batch of new songs mixed with all the exciting new talent in the band, Town and Country is shaping up to be our best album yet.
